Instead of yapping on about the class then, I'd like to show you the atrium of the hospital, because it's more like a 5-star hotel or a conference center than any English hospital I ever saw, where drafty corridors and ugly fittings are the rule.
Looking down from the balcony that runs right round the main atrium at 1st floor level (or 2nd floor if you're American). There's a chapel at one end, a cafeteria and restrooms at the other end (at the top of the stairs), and classrooms ranged along each side.
The staircase, grandmother clock and piano. There are internet stations along one wall, and free wi-fi throughout the building.
On the central axis is the firepit, open both sides but with chainmail curtains to stop people burning themselves. A security desk sits between the firepit and the front doors. Groups of armchairs, and chairs round tables, dot the atrium.
This corridor links the parking garage to the atrium, along the front of the building, and at one end, just before you exit to the garage, is a Cafe Yumm. There's a matching corridor stretching the other way from the atrium to another wing, but we didn't explore that way.
Ghost is unimpressed.

ReplyDeleteLike colleges, the U.S. hospital trend over the past decade has been to wow prospective clients with the facility.
Next week we take a tour of the Labour/Delivery area (just in case we end up at the hospital); it'll be interesting to see if the behind-the-scenes areas are as fancy as the first impressions downstairs.
