This weekend we went to Pass It On, a child-stuff consignment sale held twice a year in Eugene. It apparently started in Portland and has spread here. The one in Portland is much bigger, naturally, but we still got quite a bit of stuff for fractions of what it would cost new.
For a grand total of $169.50, we got:
* a "Diaper Champ" diaper pail
* two different baby carriers to try out
* two maternity shirts for me
* three pairs of maternity jeans for me
* three baby hats
* ten pairs of baby socks
* a hooded jacket which should be the right size (we hope) for next fall
* 25 assorted onesies, rompers, sleep sacks and shirts ranging from newborn size to about 6-9 months
* a book about baby signing
* a book about breastfeeding
* eight glass Evenflo baby bottles
* a bag of plastic teether-like toys
* a stuffed purple hippo which is kind of a shape-learning toy
* a musical ball with animal buttons/sounds
* 3 yards of fabric for making burp cloths
* a big Taggie blanket
* three pairs of knit pants (are they still called trousers in the UK if they're for babies?)
* two cloth books
* two stuffed rabbit dolls
* a pack of 12 board books about shapes, colours, etc
* and I grabbed a bag of Flexiblocks, which I used to have as a kid. Fun!
All in all, a worthwhile trip, I'd say. No idea what all of this would have cost new but I think it's safe to say it would have been much more than $170.
That's a lot of stuff. When my kids were tots there was a small consignment store 1/4 mile from my house called "Bears Repeating." We went there often. Mostly clothes though, but my older daughter who was just beyond toddlerhood loved picking things out. Especially great for things like jackets or coats that you'd otherwise pay quite a bit for.
