Monday night's interview with the homebirth midwife went well, and after discussion we're fairly certain this is the way we will go, and with this midwife. We had another interview set up for Wednesday, but we've cancelled that as we hit it off well, and were impressed by our chosen midwife.
We had a lot of questions to ask, and some stories to share. Birth plans, emergency measures and procedures, and birth kits were discussed, among many other things. We thought through a "normal birth", and what might happen if we need to transfer to hospital (about a 10% chance), usually through lack of progress when the mother is exhausted and just can't do any more work pushing without more help.
WE also discussed costs, and discovered that we CAN be covered by Beth's medical insurance, if she switches plans at the University. She can switch back after the birth, so we're going to do that.
Overall I now feel ready to tackle the birth, though I'm going to have to wait another 20+ weeks. Now we need to get down to choosing names.
