We started with a stroller, thanks to a 20% offer that REI was doing:

This is the BOB Revolution SE stroller. It's got big rubber inflatable wheels, like bike wheels, which will make it great for our many walks around the neighbourhood as well as beach dunes on the coast and dirt trails here in town. And it turns on a dime as well and is nearly effortless to push.
And today, I talked with the owner of a local baby store and arranged to buy this crib, though in a much lighter colour:

We're not going to pick it up till March or maybe even April. If for some reason we no longer need it, we can get a full refund if it's still in their warehouse.
A lot of our other stuff will probably come from Amazon. They have a generous 365 day return policy on baby stuff. Maybe they have dealt with a lot of people in our situation. Heck, maybe the founders/CEOs of Amazon have been in our situation. It certainly makes one look at things in a different light.
This is making me think of many entertaining things. Such as this stroller:http://www.allaboutprops.com/images/inventory/inventoryph-resid/stroller4.jpg which pretty much looks like the one my sibs and I got pushed around in. It was still around when my kids were babies and they always wanted to ride in it. They climbed out of the (slightly) better one I'd bought for them from the Cosco dealer at the hardware show. Neither would have been up to much recreational pushing though, like your pick! I guess my favorite/most useful baby stuff buys were the front carrier and the portable crib.
ReplyDeleteYes, we're planning on getting a couple of body carriers (Martin and I will probably want different styles). We've been fortunate to get a couple of hand-me-downs - my cousin-in-law is sending me a sling she no longer needs and my brother left a pack-and-play portable crib here when my nephew was younger, so we'll have that to use downstairs when necessary. That frees us up to have a much less portable (and more solid) main crib and co-sleeper.
